CAROLINGIAN EMPIRE


 


Charlemagne was the most important king of carolingian dynasty. He was Pepin’s son and inherited the Frankish crown. He became emperor in 800. Was crowned by the Pope as a result of his defence of christian faith and the Pope.—

- He fought against Saxons, Lombards and Muslims to enlarge his possessions.

- —He became the moral authority over kings and peoples due to the papal support.

- —He had to defend Christianity and the Church.

- —This title recovered the Roman tradition. 

- Charlemagne defended Christianity against  Saxons and Islamic tribes.
The  Carolingian Empire lasted almost the whole 9th century. The first and most important emperor was Charlemagne.

—It was ruled by the Carolingian dynasty, which had ruled as kings of the Franks since 751 and as kings of the Lombards of Italy from 774. In 800, the Frankish king Charlemagne was crowned emperor in Rome by Pope Leo III in an effort to revive the Roman Empire in the west during a vacancy in the throne of the eastern Roman Empire.
